Congress issues whip to MLAs on MLC polls

Hyderabad, March 13, 2007

The Congress issued a whip to its MLAs on Tuesday to be present in the State Capital from March 20 to 22 to elect their representatives to the Council from the MLAs quota. The Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy asked all Congress MLAs to compulsorily attend the Assembly session on all the three days.

The Congress has fielded 20 candidates for the council Election though it can ensure victory of 19 nominees on the basis of the first preferential votes. The party is keen on ensure the victory of its 20th candidate on the basis of the second and subsequent preferential votes.

The contest has become interesting in the wake of the presence of 32 candidates in the fray for the 31 seats with both the Congress and TDP fielding extra candidates.
