TDP and CPI demanded a judicial probe

Hyderabad, June 8, 2007

The President and founder of Global Peace Initiative (GPI) KA Paul on Friday levelled serious allegations against the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He accused him of scuttling his peace mission to anti-US countries in 2005 because he did not give him US $5 million for poll expenses a year before. He also dragged the Congress president Sonia Gandhi into the controversy.

Speaking at a press conference , he said that the GPI had planned a peace mission consisting of 25 Indian MPs from July 5 to 12 in 2005 to visit Iran, Syria, Libya and Venezuela but it was cancelled at the behest of Natwar Singh, the Minister for Foreign Affairs. He said that Natwar Singh basing on the instructions from Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister's Office to cancel the mission. He claimed that the Chief Minister grudge against him for not meeting his demand for US $5 million for his political campaign.

He also named the Minister for Housing, B Satyanarayana as the person who accompanied the Chief Minister on the trip wherein the issue came up for discussion. He claimed that there a threat to his life from the Chief Minister and Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy termed the allegations as ridiculous and he would ignore them for now, but if they were persisted with, he will take remedial action. He said that Paul wanted Sonia Gandhi to attend a congregation at Sadasivapet in Medak district so that he could use the mileage to get funds from abroad. However, she was not keen on attending the programme. Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party and CPI demanded a judicial enquiry into the issue.
