TDP plans dharna against Dummugudem canal

Dharna will be organized on June 13

Hyderabad, June 7, 2007

Speaking to press persons on Thursday, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader T Devender Goud said that the party will organize a mass dharna in front of Jala Soudha, where the office of the Engineer in Chief is housed on June 13 in protest against construction of the Dummugudem - Nagarjunasagar tail pond project. It may be noted that the tender are called for construction on June 13.

He appealed the contractors not to file tenders and said that the party would not allow construction of the project. The TDP will launch a massive agitation against the project to protect the interests of Telangana region.

He alleged that the government took up Devadula and Yelampali projects each with 12 tmcft capacity for the region, though there was plenty of water in the East Godavari. He demanded the government for early completion of all the irrigation projects envisaged for Telangana.
