Maoists threat on Andhra-Orissa border

Intelligence Bureau warns possibility of attacks

Hyderabad, June 4, 2007

The Intelligence Bureau warns the possibility of a major attack by the Maoists on the Andhra-Orissa boarder. With the warning signals pouring in the State Police have begun mobilizing anti Naxalite forces in the three districts of Srikakulam, Viziangaram and Visakhapatnam. According to sources, nearly one hundred hard core naxals including top leaders of CPI (Maoist) and nearly 500 tribals have been regrouping on the Orissa side during the past one week. The Chattisgarah Government has put the police on high alert.

Recently the Maoists have gunned down a couple of people's representatives in Visakhapatnam district and their movement in forest ares had been a matter of concern to the police. With the warning coming up from IB, the Orissa and Chattisgarah, anti Naxalite teams have launched intensive combing operations along with Andhra Orissa boarder.

The Home Minister, K Jana Reddy said that there is nothing to worry about the warnings as the State Police is on the high alert.
