Hyderabad, June 27, 2007

The State Government has accepted he recommendations of the Andhra Pradesh Minimum Wages Advisory Board on the revision and fixation of minimum wages for employees working in 42 of the 69 scheduled employments covered by the Minimum Wages Act.

On the completion of their two year tenure on Wednesday, the Board Chairman Babar saleem Pasha said to media that they have recommended a hike ranging between 3.5 percent and 30 percent for the workers employed in 42 scheduled employments.

The Board met 12 times during its tenure and recommended wages for various establishments at different stages for the benefit of the workers. He said that the board also recommended the Government to scrap GO Ms No.33 which was issue by the previous government curtailing the powers of enforcement authorities to check implementation of various labour laws. The GO should be withdrawn for the benefit of the workers and thorough check be conducted in the establishments to ensure implementation of the minimum wages act.
