Police arrests four persons for death of ICICI Bank defaulter

Arrested include three partners of Elite Financial Services

Hyderabad, June 25, 2007

After a couple of days after the death of ICICI Bank defaulter Yadaiah in the custody of Elite Financial Services, a firm whose debt recovery services are used by the bank, the Panjagutta Police arrested four persons including three partners of the Elite Financial Services on the charge of kidnapping, wrongful confinement and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) Chairman B Subhashan Reddy sought a report from the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Panjagutta by June 29, 2007.

The Panjagutta Inspector said that the postmortem report is awaited as the doctors are yet to come to a conclusion about the exact cause of death. The Credit Card Holders Association of India office at Musheerabad witnessed hectic activity as scores of media persons descended on the office to interview some of the alleged victims of various banks using the service of dubious outfits to recover debts.

A scientist working with Indian Institute of Chemical Technology who had taken a credit card from the HDFC Bank sometime ago, alleged that even though he paid Rs. 40,000 of the total credit limit of his card Rs. 50,000, he was kidnapped and thrashed by some goons hired by the Bank officials, he said.
