Police continue to lift CPI workers

Hyderabad, June 22, 2007

The State CPI secretary K Narayana on Friday objected the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy's proposal to take up in New Delhi with CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on the ongoing 'Bhu poratam' launched by the Left parties.

Mr. Narayana stated that the both CPI (M) and CPI would jointly launch a struggle demanding land for the poor. He demanded setting up of a special committee to oversee the implementation of the Koneru Ranga Rao Land Committee. He commented that the TRS leadership to counsel non local Government employees to go back to their native districts as undemocratic and humiliating to fellow staff members. He also demanded withdrawal of the campaign as it amounted to taking the law into their hands.

Despite stiff resistance by women workers of CPI, the police have bodily lifted the CPI secretary and other leaders into police vehicles when they took possession of ten acres of land near Kukatpally Housing Board by planting CPI flags. A case has been registered by the Kukatpally police an the arrested activists were kept in Balanagar police station.
