HRD Minister announces
Hyderabad, June 16, 2007The Human Resources Minister, Arjun Singh has announced that the Andhra Pradesh will have an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the current Plan. He announced the same in response to the request made by the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy during the inauguration of the South Central Regional Centre of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) at Jubilee Hills on Saturday.
The minister who is instrumental in seeking to introduce 27 percent reservation for Backward Classes (OBC) in IITs and IIMs said that equity in access to education was key. He commented that all sections needed access to education and to become partners in transforming the country.
The Chief Minister said that the State was attracting centres of excellence including BITS and IIT. Eight more Gurukuls were planned this year for imparting information technology skills in the rural areas. He further added that multinational companies are visiting engineering colleges for campus placements in rural areas. In respect of reservations for Muslims, he said that the Government was trying to overcome the hurdles and legal problems.
