District Collector calls for voluntary donation of blood
Vijayanagaram, June 14, 2007Speaking at a function organized as a part of the World Blood Donors Day celebrations on Thursday, the District Collector, B Kishore said that donating blood voluntarily is the most sacred service to the society that saves the lives of hundreds of people.
He said that nearly 12,000 units of blood was required for various purposes such as accident victims, pregnant ladies and patients in the district. He said that only 5,300 units were collected last year and exhorted the youth to donate blood.
The District Medical and Health officer V Venkateswara Rao appreciated employees, students and non governmental organizations who are active in organizing blood donation camps and collecting blood. A blood donation camp was conducted by students of RK Degree College and regular blood donors were felicitated on the occasion.
