CBI takes over the Mecca Masjid blast case

CBI team visits Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 11, 2007

A team from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrived Hyderabad and taken over the Mecca Masjid bomb blast case. The team of CBI officials is led by CBI Superintendent of Police, RS Dhankad. According to available sources, he arrived in the city on Monday morning along with his team of Inspectors and held a series of meetings with the Hyderabad Police Commissioner(Administration) HK Gupta who is also heading the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) formed to probe the case.

The officials of CBI team will visit the Mecca Masjid on Tuesday after which all the files pertaining to the blast case will be handed over to Dhankad. They will also visit the AP Forensic Sciences Laboratory to obtain information about the unexploded Improvised Explosive Device which was recovered from the site. The sources said that two officers CBI DIG and Joint Director will also visit the mosque in a couple of days. It may be recalled that the SIC has already announced Rs. 5 lakhs reward for anyone providing leads in the case.

Meanwhile, an inquiry by special executive magistrate Ramesh Reddy begun on Monday morning at Hyderabad Collectorate into the police firing after the explosion took place at the Mecca Masjid.
