Hyderabad, June 1, 2007

A city judge on Friday acquitted for want of circumstances evidence, nine persons languishing in Cherlapally central prison for 14 years for their alleged involved in the 1993 blasts in the State Capital.

Over a course of four months in 1993, there were explosions at Secunderabad Railway Station complex, Humayun Nagar police station, Abid's Police station and the Madina Educational Centre. The blasts that occurred between August 12 and December 6, 1993 left three dead and left several injured. The police arrested ten persons including Dr Jales Ansari who was alleged to have mastermind in the blast and was subsequently awarded life sentence in connection with the blast on AP Express and at present lodged in Ajmir jail.

In the instant case, the judgment was pronounced at the Cherlapally central prison by the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge cum communal offenses sessions Judge E Radhakrishna. The hearing was conducted at the Cherlapally Central prison following the directive from the High Court. It may be recalled hat the first bomb exploded at Abid's police station n the night of August 12, followed by another at Humayan Nagar police station. After a month later, another blast occurred at Secunderabad Railway Station Reservation complex and then at the Madina Educational Centre in Nampally. On December 6, the anniversary day of demolition of Babri Masjid, there was an explosion in Delhi bound AP Express in which two passengers were killed leaving fourteen injured. The judgment has come as a damper to the city police which is still groping in the dark over the Mecca Masjid blast.
