CPM says it will continue its struggle for land for the poor

The CPI on Monday asked the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy to quit owning moral responsibility to the Mudigonda police firing and mounted pressure on the Congress party to concede its demands. Speaking in tune with Left parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TDP also demanded that the Chief Minister should resign and demanded stringent action the police officials responsible for police firing.
Meanwhile, the CPM has decided to launch second phase of land struggle unless the government concede its demands. It also decided to send party delegations from various States across the country to Khammam district to express solidarity to the land struggle. The party's polit bureau that met on Monday to chalk out the future course of action and cautioned the government that the consequences will be very severe if the government continues repressive measures are continued.
Hundreds of CPM and CPI (ML-Liberation) activists staged a demonstration to protest against the police firing. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Man Mohan Singh spoke to the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy for the next of the kind of those killed in the police firing. It is learnt that the Chief Minister had explained the circumstances and steps taken in the incident. The Prime Minister who will attend a day long review meeting on agriculture and infrastructure was received by the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy and ministers and senior officials.
