In connection with the death of under trial prisoner

Hyderabad, July 3, 2007

In a press released issued on Tuesday, failing to respond despite several repeated reminders, the AP State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) directed the Superintendent of Police of West Godavari to be present on July 6 in connection with the death of an under trial prisoner on November 2005.

APHRC Chairman B Subhashan Reddy said that the Superintend of Police, M Jaganmohan Reddy filed his report in which he state that the case is under investigation for examination of some more witnesses. It was stated that the SP has submitted the relevant reports to the Commission but the Commission denied that they did not receive the documents.

The Commission reminded the office of the SP over telephone and they informed that it would be faxed within two hours but even this was not compiled with. The Chairman of APHRC has took a serious exception and directed the personal appearance of the Superintend of Police on July 6.
