US officials and State Government signed agreement
Hyderabad, July 3, 2007The officials of US an the State Government signed a lease agreement to establish the consulate on Tuesday with an estimated cost of US $7.6 million. It will be temporarily accommodate in Paigah Place at Begumpet which is now house the office of HUDA. A permanent premises will come up in Gachibowli by the end of 2011.
US Ambassador to India David C Mulford said after signing the agreement with the State Government in the premises of the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The Principal Secretary CR Biswal signed the agreement on behalf of the government. The consulate would be the fourth one after Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
Mulford said that Hyderabad qualifies for having a consulate because of the State's varied economic activities. He further added that Hyderabad has become a centre for bio-technology, life sciences and Information Technology. The Chief Minister has said that the State Government has identified 12 acres of land for location of the permanent office. The formalities to hand over the land are in progress.
