Agitators damages 56 buses across the State
Hyderabad, July 28, 2007
The State-wide bandh call given by Left parties made the APSRTC to loose Rs. 5 crore due violence that broke out on Saturday alone. The agitators damaged 56 buses belonging to APSRTC across the state by pelting stones and 83 buses were rendered immobile by deflation of their tyres. In the state capital alone, 41 buses were smashed by the protesters.
According to the Executive Director A Nageswara Rao told to the media that only 10,275 buses out of total 19,722 could be operated. A total 9,442 buses could not come out of the bus depots. Out of all depots, Khammam was the worst affected followed by Vijayawada.
He appealed to all the political parties and other organizations not to target APSRTC buses and said that the damaged buses had a cascading effect as most of them were sent back to garages for repair and needed some time to press them into service.
