Talks between Left parties and Government fails

Hyderabad, July 27, 2007

The talks between the Left parties and the State Government on the contentious land issue failed resulting the Left parties to go ahead with its proposed State wide bandh. The day long deliberations between group of ministers comprising K Jana Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao and Kanna Lakshminarayana and a delegation of CPI and CPM leaders in the Secretariat that went till late night both failed to arrive a consensus on various demands.

Though the State Government has agreed to set up a special commission to oversee the implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee, the Left parties insisted that the commission should be headed by a Non-Government person while the Government says that the commission will be headed by the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration who has quasi-judicial powers. The Left parties have demanded the Government to not to evacuate the people who occupied lands.

The Left parties demanded to prepare a list of eligible candidates and allot the same to them. But the government offered to prepare the list of eligible candidates by December 31 which was rejected by them. The State Government has agreed to set up a vigilance wing in the Housing department to keep a check on the possible irregularities in implementation of the massive housing programme. However, the Left parties decided to go ahead of the State wide bandh which is being supported by Telugu Desam Party.
