They threatened to paralyze the administration
Hyderabad, July 22, 2007The CPI(M) and CPI have threatened to paralyze the State Administration if the government fails to concede their demands for taking up land distribution and constituting an independent land panel to oversee the land reform process. The CPI(M) State secretary, BV Raghavulu, CPI Secretary K Narayana and seven others launched an indefinite hunger strike on Sunday to mount pressure on the Government on the demands.
Speaking to media at Indira Park, the venue of the fast, Raghavulu and Narayana charged the government for turning a deaf ear to the demands made by the people who took up the struggle. They said that the Government was sparing the rich and influential who were in illegal possession of lands was however not prepared to distribute the eligible lands to the poor.
Speaking at the gathering, CPI MP S Sudhakar Reddy said that the Left parties gave sufficient time to the Government to take up the land distribution in tune with its election promises. The land Committee appointed by the government made it clear that nearly 70 lakh acres could be distributed to the poor. He charged that the government lacked commitment to take up land issues in a holistic manner.
