Arrested on charges for trying to enter OMC area
Anantapur, July 21, 2007Nearly 20 MLAs and MLCs of Telugu Desam Party were arrested while trying to enter the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) in D. Hiremhal mandal close to the interstate boarder with Karnataka on Saturday. A strong delegation of TDP reached Bellary from Hyderabad in two buses and proceeded immediately towards OMC. On reaching the OMC area, the police who erected road blocks.
The TDP Deputy Floor leader in the Assembly, N Janardhana Reddy and Whip E Dayakar Rao entered into a heated argument with the Officer in Special Duty. As the argument intensified, the police lifted Dayakar Rao and others into waiting vans, sparking off protests and slogan shouting against the police and State Government. Angered over this issue, Dayakar Rao threw his arm at the police that resulted the police canned and bundled into the van.
Several leaders sustained bruises and minor injuries. Meanwhile, a TDP delegation called on the State Human Rights Commission Chairman B Subhashan Reddy in the evening and submitted a memorandum and demanded an inquiry into the entire episode.
