Gram panchayats that excel in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation
Hyderabad, July 2, 2007The State Government has decided to give away awards to gram panchayats that excel in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in their limits. It is instituted on the lines of Nirmal Gram Puraskars at the national level, the new awards named, 'Shubhra' will be based on parameters like safe disposal of excreta, liquid and solid waste management, operation and maintenance of drinking water schemers and community participation.
Accordingly, one village each under 1150 mandals would be selected for the award that carries Rs. 3000 cash. Similarly, three gram panchayats would be selected at the district level for their sanitation management practices and would be given cash prize of Rs. 1.25 lakh, Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 75,000 respectively. Three panchayats would be selected for the State level award that carries cash of Rs. 2.5 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh.
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy announcing the launch of the awards on Monday said, one best would be selected from each district for the award carrying cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh. At the, State level, three mandals would be selected for the award and give cash prizes of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 3 lakhs. The awards would also be given for individuals for motivating them to encourage others adopting good practices for ensuring health and hygiene.
