TRS rebels to vote for Pratibha Patil

They claimed abstaining from polls is a bad practice

Hyderabad, July 18, 2007

The rebel TRS MLAs have decided to participate in the Presidential Election on Thursday and vote for UPA candidate Pratibha Patil. The decision of the ten MLAs in a sharp contrast to the stand taken by the TRS leadership to abstain from voting on the ground of keeping equidistance from both UPA and BJP led NDA.

They have decided to vote for Pratibha Patil on the ground that a woman was running for the highest post on the country's soil. M Satyanarayana Reddy said it was their bounden duty to elect the custodian of the Constitution. MLA Santosh Reddy said that it was a bad practice to abstain from elections in a democracy.
