AP Assembly adjourned without transacting any business

MIM protests against delay in judicial probe into police firing at Mecca Masjid

Hyderabad, July 17, 2007

On Tuesday, amidst slogan shouting by TRS and MIM members gathered near the Speaker's podium and disrupted the proceedings seeking admission of their adjournment motions, the Speaker adjourned the house without transacting any business.

The TRS wanted adoption of a resolution on implementing the Sachar Committee's recommendations on minorities while the MIM members were protesting against the delay in starting the judicial inquiry into the police firing in the old city following the Mecca Masjid bomb blast. Soon after the House met, Speaker KR Suresh Reddy disallowed seven adjournment motions including those tabled by the TRS and MIM. The BJP's adjournment notice pertained to reservation for Muslims and another one was given by CPI(ML) member G Narasaiah on providing land to poor girijans.
