AP Administrative Tribunal suspends transfer of Police Officers

Implementation of GO 610 gets hit temporarily

Hyderabad, July 13, 2007

The Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal (APAT) on Friday suspended the transfer of 100 police officers from the city under the provisions of GO 610. It may be noted that the State Government repatriated the Sub Inspectors and Circle Inspectors earlier this week.

The aggrieved police officers challenged the State Government's order contending that City Police Act is exempted from the Presidential Order. While suspending the transfers, judicial member of the Administrative Tribunal Sudhendra Kulkarni and administrative tribunal member Narasimha Rao observed that he basis of identification of the transferred police personnel as non locals was not transparent. The Tribunal also pointed out that the City Police Act was exempted from the purview of the Presidential Order.

According to sources that the Government said that the same legal impediment was pointed out by the Law Department when the exercise for repatriation was taken up. The same thing was pointed out that it might lead to legal complications. However, the Chief Minister's Office reportedly ignored the objections and they have not taken this to the notice of the Chief Minister.
