Chief Secretary Issues orders to this effect
Hyderabad, January 3, 2007The use of air conditioners and refrigerators in all Government offices is banned till March 2007 and to this the Chief Secretary J. Harinaryana issued orders on Wednesday. He issued the orders in view of non-availability of power from outside the State and the ever-increasing gap between supply and demand. The GO issued is about certain instructions on energy conservation indicating the problem being faced by poor utilities to meet the demand.
Ten percent of the energy that is being consumed at present can be saved by these measures. NDCAP has been asked to appoint voluntary energy observes. However, hospitals, scientific laboratories and manufacturing processing units requiring controlled environment and central computer servers/processors have been exempted from the purview of the Government Order.
In a review meeting held on Wednesday, the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy set an example when he asked his officials to switch off around a dozen tube lights in the conference hall in his office. As per the GO, the refrigerators in offices should not be used and they should be sent to hospitals and dispensaries where they can be better used. It further states that except 15 minutes before and after closing of the offices, fifty per cent of the lifts should be stopped and a sticker showing the during of its operation be pasted on them. Illuminated lights and use of decorative displays during public functions is totally banned.
