Government distributing land to landless families
Hyderabad, January 3, 2007Unlike in the case of the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the relatives of the Chief Minister have given up ownership of 997 acres which legally belongs to them in Kadapa district. The Minister for Revenue, Dharmana Prasada Rao speaking to media said that the Chief Minister’s kin involved no illegality in either the purchase of holding of the 997 acres. They had nevertheless decided to donate the lands to the government solely for the purpose of distribution among the landless poor in the district.
The minister appealed to the public to appreciate the resolve of the family of the Chief Minister to donate the land to mark the launch of the government’s second generation of land reforms (Bhoo Yagnam) in the State. He hoped that the representatives of the people and members of the public would emulate the Chief Minister’s action and voluntarily surrender the lands held by them illegally. The Revenue Minister made an impassioned plea to the landed gentry to utilize the provisions of the Act passed by the Assembly recently providing amnesty to those that voluntarily surrendered the assigned lands within 90 days of the date of notification.
He said that among one crore landless families in the State, half were below the poverty line and the government was committed to distributing land to all such families.
