Funds to be spent on hostel maintenance and reimbursement fee
Hyderabad, January 27, 2007The State Government has decided to release Rs. 100 crore towards post matric scholarships of Scheduled Castes students for the fourth quarter of this year pending receipt of centrally sponsored schemes. The amount would be spent on maintenance of hostels and reimbursement of fee for 4.21 lakh students according to an official release.
The Chief Minister had a meeting with the officials of Social Welfare Department on Saturday and asked them to ensure transparency in distribution of scholarships and other benefits to students. The press release said that Rs. 100 crores was in addition to Rs. 218.55 crores released during the year as a part of the planned budget and Central assistance for post matric scholarships.
The amount was utilized for payment of arrears of scholarships for para medical and regular courses during 2005-06 and meeting the maintenance charges of hostels during the current year.
