Blames Government of forcing villages to part with their lands

Hyderabad, January 26, 2007

The CPM State secretary BV Raghavulu on Friday demanded the government to stop acquiring 1600 acres of land in Srungavarapukota mandal in Vizianagaram district for Jindal Aluminium Company.

He addressed a letter to the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy in which he said that contrary to assurances, the government is forcing the villagers to part with their land. He further added that the Government had announced that land is being allotted to Jindal factory at Sabbavaram mandal of Visakhapatnam district. He said that while the State Pollution Board has conducted public hearing on this site, he asked the government why the government is acquiring lands in Vizianagaram district for the same purpose.

Raghavulu in his letter pointed out that aluminimum factory would need water and it has be drawn from Thatipudi reservoir which would affect irrigation to 20,000 acres in the ayacut and fifty percent water from the reservoir was being diverted to Visakhapatnam district.
