Selection process postponed for lack of quorum
Vijayanagaram, January 24, 2007The stand between the two Ministers B. Satyanarayana and S. Vijaya Rama Raju over the selection of the candidate for the Zilla Parishad Chairman’s post continued for the second day resulting to the postponement of the election to Thursday. Nine ZPTC loyal to Vijaya Rama Raju stayed away from the election resulted in the lack of quorum.
Minister for Marketing B. Satyanaryana finalized the name of Gajapathinagaram ZPTC member Gara Thavudu. But the ZPTC member loyal to Vijayarama Raju stayed away from the meeting as they were not consulted during the selection process. Minister B. Satyanarayana however claimed that Thavudu’s nomination was temporary as the party decided to make former MLA V. Narayana Appalanaidu as ZP Chief and the same was brought to the notice of Vijayarama Raju and District Congress Committee president Vsireddy Varada Rama Rao. He said that the decision was only authorized to name the candidate, Satyanarayana said.
Meanwhile, the District Election Officer and Collector B. Kishore rejected the B Form of Gajapatinagaram ZPTC G. Thavudu when he submitted the papers after the expiy of the specific time. Of the 34 ZPTCs, the Congrtess has a strength of 23 but only 14 members belonging to marketing minister turned up for the meeting while the nine others belonging to the Minister for Forests, S. Vijayarama Rao were stayed away. The meeting was scheduled to commence at 11am but the Collector waited till noon and announced that the meeting was put off as there was no quorum.
