Political storm erupted in Congress party over ZP Post

Two ministers threaten to resign

Hyderabad, January 23, 2007

In dramatic developments in the ruling party, two ministers offered to resign their posts over the selection of nominee for the Zilla Parishad chairmanship, the election for which is scheduled tomorrow. One of the ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, the Minister for Marketing offered to quit in the way of selecting his brother for the post. Meanwhile, another minister from the same district, S. Vijaya Rama Raju, the Minister for Forests, threatened to resign if the party leadership yielded to Botsa as a third important post in the district cannot go to the same family. Botsa Jhansi, the wife of B. Satyanarayana was recently elected to MP from Bobbili constituency.

The APCC president, K. Keshava Rao on Tuesday made it clear that the brother of Botsa Satyanarayana will not become ZP chief and said that the Minister himself would propose the name of another alternative candidate acceptable to all. While the rival group led by Satyanarayana is insisting that the Minister's brother and Dattirajeru ZPTC B. Appalanarasaiah should be made ZP Chief, the rival group led by Vijaya Rama Raju is supporting the candidature of Garugubilli ZPTC and present ZP vice chairman G. Sudarshan Rao.

Botsa Satyanarayana met the Chief Minister on Tuesday and urged him to get his brother's name cleared for the post. It is understood that the Chief Minister made it clear that there was opposition to giving a third post to the same family. Botsa Satyanarayana offered to quit so that his brother could become ZP chief. After sometime, Vijaya Rama Raju also called on the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister assured that at any cost Botsa Satyanarayana‘s brother will not be made ZP Chief Post.
