Protest against increase of third party insurance by cent percent
Hyderabad, January 22, 2007
Nearly 3 lakh transport vehicles in the State will stop loading and unloading operations from the mid night of January 25 in protest against the ad hoc and arbitrary increase of third party insurance premium by cent percent.
Andhra Pradesh Transporters’ Joint Action Committee convener Mohd. Khan speaking to media on Monday said that their action was in support of the indefinite nationwide transport strike called by All India Confederation of Goods Vehicles Owners’ Associations. He said that the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of associations of truck and bus operators held on January 19, 2007. He further said that the bandh will continue till the Government called the apex organization for talks on the increased premium along with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority.
The convener of AP Transporters’ Joint Action Committee and other leader criticized the Centre for hiking the premium to 150 per cent from January 1 and it was a burden as transporters in the State were already paying 59 percent tax, the highest in the country.
