Telangana students burn Baba effigy in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, January 22, 2007
Sri Satya Sai Baba’s remarks in Chennai over division of Andhra Pradesh expectedly stirred reactions both for and against from different political parties. The PCC president K. Keshava Rao said in a statement that the comments were hasty and uncalled for that there was no need to read too much of politics into it. He opined that it is unfortunate that his reference to Telangana is being misread.
Speaking to media, Congress spokesmen P. Venkata Rao said that Sai Baba only wanted the people and the nation to be unite but did not comment against any individual. TDP leader Ch Rajeswararao expressed surprise at Baba’s comments. He said that the observations of Baba to be taken in proper spirit without turning emotional.
Meanwhile, Telangana Student leaders held dharna infornt of the Shivam temple and burnt the effigy of Sai Baba. They warned that Sai Baba temples would be closed if such statements were made again. Police have taken the agitating students into custody and later released.
