Chief Minister will launch the website
Hyderabad, January 21, 2007Andhra Pradesh is the first State in creating a separate website detailing pensions distributed under various social welfare schemes to be aged, handicapped and wavers. The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate it within a fortnight. The website will furnish particulars of amounts disbursed each month as well as additions and deletions to the list of beneficiaries apart from details like various government orders on the pension schemes, eligibility and disbursals among others.
Nearly 30 lakh people get pension every month. As part of Indiramma village programme, nine lakh pensions were added this year and with the beginning of the second phase of the programme another nine-lakh pensions are likely to be added from April.
Out of the 30-lakh pensions, the Centre reimburses only five lakh pensions. This year, the State Government will be spending Rs. 735 crore on pensions as against Rs. 400 crore last year. The village panchayat was asked to prepare a register of eligible pensioners in the village and it would be updated every month. Rural Development Principal Secretary K. Raju said that the government had instructed officials to ensure pensions were distributed on the first of every month.
