Hyderabad, January 21, 2007

At a review meeting held with the officials on Sunday, the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that the government has decided to implement micro irrigation projects all over the State by launching one in Kadapa district in the near future. He said that the farmers in the dry land would benefit once the irrigation projects were taken up. He opined that implementation of micro irrigation under lift irrigation schemes would redress the water problems for the farmers.

He said that the micro irrigation was the most effective solution for the farmers in dry land areas as it reduced input expenditure for the farmers but increase in production. He said that Jammalamadugu and Pulivendula in Kadapa district and Dharmavaram in Anathapuram district had been denied irrigation for a long time. He preferred the micro irrigation scheme, which would require an outlay of Rs. 2470 crore.

Referring to the ‘Jala Yagnam’, he said near Rs. 1.5 lakh crores would be spent to complete all irrigation projects and in the last couple of years, 12 lakh acres was brought under irrigation on completion of projects.
