The first one will be inaugurated at CID office
Hyderabad, January 20, 2007In view of alarming proportions of human trafficking in the State, the Ministry of Home Affairs and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) sanctioned three anti human trafficking units for the State Government. Besides, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and West Bengal are the two States where such units would be set up.
The units are being set up in State where prevalence of human trafficking is high. The housing of the units is left to the respective States. The project is aimed at creating an effective partnership among key stakeholders engaged in providing responsible to human trafficking.
In the State, the first unit will be set up in the CID wing, which will be supervised by the CID chief while DIG of the wing will act as nodal officer. An officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police will head each unit. Atleast 30 percent of staff will be women officers. The Home Minister K. Jana Reddy will inaugurate the first unit in the CID office on Monday and the rest two will be opened elsewhere in the city.
