Hyderabad, January 19, 2007

The Bharatiya Janata Party president Bandaru Dattatreya in a statement demanded payment of Rs. 3 lakhs ex gratia to each of the families of 55 persons who were drowned in the river. He sought a comprehensive enquiry into the tragedy and also action against the officials concerned for their failure in preventing such accidents.

In another statement issued by BV Raghavulu, CPI (M) State secretary said the drowning could have been averted had the officials have been alert. He opined that the officials should have exercised more care as the movement of large number of people in view of jataras in festive seasons.
