NH7 blockade to press demand for IIT at Basar
Hyderabad, January 18, 2007
An all-party committee supporting the demand for establishment of IIT at Basar in Adilabad has decided to organize a round the clock road blockade on February 1 between Baswapur in Nizamabad and Penganga in Adilabad district. The committee that met on Friday opposed the State Government’s decision appointing a three-member committee afresh to decide on the location of the IIT.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao said there was no sanctity for the GO 40 issued to decide the location of the IIT as the experts committee had already favored Basar.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Politburo member T. Devender Goud alleged that the State Government was creating a controversy over the location of IIT. He said that the government can set up other educational institutions at Basar along with IIT to develop the backward district.
