Hyderabad, January 16, 2007

The commissioning of the third unit of the second phase of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (RTPP) will bring a great relief to the power starved State. The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy will formally switch on the project on January 24. The fourth unit, with a similar installed capacity will be ready by May this year. The cost of the two units is around Rs. 1640 crore and they are being commissioned within 44 months.

The first unit of the Jurala hydel Project will also be commissioned by March this year-end the generation will start only three months later as there is no water in the project at present.

The contract for main plant of RTPP was awarded to BHEL and major works including erection of turbine generator of the third unit. Cooling tower besides commissioning of the coal conveyors has been completed. Civil works and equipment erection for ash handling system are under progress.
