Nine departments completes process

Hyderabad, January 10, 2007

The government has almost completed the process of devolution of power to local bodies in respect of nine departments and the Cabinet will approve it on January 18.

After a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, speaking to media said that nine subjects were prioritized for devolution in the first phase. They include Animal Husbandry and fisheries. He said that Zilla Parishad chairpersons will made chairpersons of committees of schoolteachers counselling committee.

While development functions are being devolved, regulatory functions remain with the department. The people’s representatives will be authorized to inspect the institutions.
