APSRTC to close loss-making depots
Hyderabad, January 1, 2007
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Employees Union called upon its members to stage dharnas at all regional headquarters of APSRTC on January 4 in protest against the closure of depots.
In a press release issued by the union expressed concern over the reports that the APSRTC management was taking steps to close down or scale down the operations at 15 depots. The State CPI secretary K. Narayana said closure of depots in the name of losses was not the answer. He said that the Government should consult political parties and unions before taking any decision that would affect the larger interests of the workers and public.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday made it clear that there would be no job loss for any of the RTC employees in view of the closure of certain depots in various parts of the State. He said that some of the RTC depots would be closed as part of restructuring and there was no change in the government’s stand of non-interference in the RTC management.
