Deputy Directors in the department to keep a vigil
Hyderabad, February 7, 2007In a review meeting held on Wednesday, the Minister for Social Welfare D Redya Naik has decided to discipline the wardens of social welfare hostels. To change the attitude of the wardens, the Minister directed the officials to cut the increments on the erring officials. He further added that if the wardens were absent without permission and the examination results among the hostel students were not satisfactory, then too their increments could be cut. He directed the Deputy Directors in Social Welfare Department to keep a vigil on the conduct of the wardens and they would have to take up the responsibility for the performance of the wardens.
Speaking to media after the review meeting, he said that the 294 vacancies for warden posts would be filled soon. He further said that for the first time, the government released funds totally towards scholarships before March end. Rs. 218 crore was disbursed and Rs. 100 crore was released recently and it would be disbursed by February 15. An amount of Rs. 140 crore is proposed to be spent as special fees and tuition fee to the tutors and it is to be paid before March 31.
The Minister said that six schools of excellence would be started this year by the Tribal Welfare Department, two in each region including one each for girls. SC Welfare Department will be starting three such schools in Karimnagar, Visakhapatnam and Pulivendula. He added that the Tribal Welfare Department would be upgrading 30 high schools into junior colleges and opening six residential junior colleges for girls.
