Vijayawada, February 5, 2007

In what is considered to be an untoward incident in the history of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, Mayor Mallika Begum was manhandled by the corporators of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Left Parties while she was leaving after passing an adjourning of the meeting at the council hall.

Verbal abuses started which gradually led the TDP and Left party corporators to come near the Mayor podium. Later incidents has resulted in mild rough up of the Mayor who broke to tears.

Speaking with the media later, the Mayor sought an apology and charged the opposition corporators of atrocious behavior. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the office of the VMC was also squattered.
