Result of selection of the candidates for GVMP polls

Hyderabad, February 5, 2007

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Ch. Ayyannapatrudu on Monday resigned other party posts. The controversary over selection of TDP candidates for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections deepened further with his resignation. He is the party general secretary and Visakhapatnam district coordination committee chairman.

His decision comes in the wake of the leadership's direction to him to depose before the three member committee constituted to seek explanation from him fo his utterances against the high command. He however will continue as MLA and party worker. His recent remarks over the selection of candidates for the GVMC elections sparked off a controversy. He alleged that the party leadership sold tickets and BCs were neglected.

Sources reveal that the party president N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted to take stern action against Ayyannapatrudu over his allegations, the other Politburo members suggested closure of the issue by simply warning him. An emergency meeting of the Politburo constituted a committee to seek explanation from him and invited him to explain the reasons for the outburst.
