Chief Secretary submits report on controversial GO

Recommends action against officials for unauthorized release of gag GO

Hyderabad, February 25, 2007

The Chief Secretary J. Harinarayan, in his inquiry over issue of the controversial GO MS 938 has recommended the Government to take appropriate action against the Additional Secretary (GAD) NV Ramana Reddy and others found responsible for issuing the GO without the initials of the Chief Secretary. He also found fault with some officials of the Law Department for shoddy drafting.

He faulted the officials for violating business rules. According to sources, the Government had never created a body called 'Media Watch' as mentioned in the GO and this seemed to be rather a purely shorthand or clerical term used to describe a long standing process in Government reviews of reports that appears in the media from time to time.
