Seized rice and pulse worth over Rs. 20 crores seized
Hyderabad, February 15, 2007In a major drive throughout the State, 70 vigilance and enforcement units raided dal mills and wholesale pulse dealers for the third consecutive day on Thursday and seized stocks worth over Rs. 20 crore. The raids were conducted under the Essential Commodities Act.
The drive was mainly against pulses as their prices had gone by 25 percent in the last couple of months. This was meant to act as a deterrent and bring don the prices. In all five godowns of wholesale dealers in Tirupati and Chittoor were sealed and cases booked against the dealers.
In similar raids on Wednesday, the officials concerned sealed and confiscated records from four godowns in the district. With the government bringing pulses under control order in September last year, a wholesale dealer in the State Capital was entitled to keep 2000 quintals and a dealer in the district upto 1000 quintals. The dal mills could store 15 days worth of stock after milling.
