School gets remarks on sexual abuse

Hyderabad, December 7, 2007

The Andhra Pradesh State Government has issued notice on the Lotus School in the LB Nagar following the sexual assault of a six year old by an attender. The police have taken him into custody. After knowing about the incident, the Regional Joint Director Satyanarayana Reddy and the Sarrornagar Deputy District Educational officers visited the school.

Speaking over the incident, the RJD said that the school was opened this year with 32 students on rolls. He said that the Educational Department had lodged a complaint with the police holding the school management responsible for the heinous act. A closure notice was issued to the school earlier on technical grounds and a second notice was issued.

The School Education Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said stern action would be taken against the management. Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the Correspondent K Renuka Raju said that the incident of bus attendant harassing the child happened on November 28 but the parents reported the matter only on November 30. She further alleged that the girl’s parents demanded Rs.2 lakh from the school when the two persons from the head office visited them.
