Vijayashanti protests against doctors on Niloufer Hospital issue

Demands for registration of attempt to murder case against MIM MLA

Hyderabad, December 4, 2007

It appears that a political turn came out on Tuesday with political leaders of different parties rushing to the Niloufer Hospital Doctors strike venue. The Doctors at the hospital are demanding action against the MIM MLA Afsar Khan.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supported the cause of the doctors and criticized the Government for what it termed as total insensivity to people’s sufferings. Meanwhile the Talli Telangana Party President Vijayashanti staged an impromptu demonstration against the doctors and entered into an intense argument with hospital authorities. She made a dramatic entry into the hospital and sat on dharna holding a sick child in her lap. She charged the hospital authorities alleging that injustice was being meted to Telanga. She demanded payment of Rs.2 lakh ex-gratia to parents of the children who died during the strike period. Meanwhile, the TDP MLAs P Keshav and E Dayakara Rao demanded that a non-bailable warrant be issued against the MIM MLA and security stepped up at hospitals.

The Niloufer agitation got support from the resident doctors of NIMS and APGDA. Meanwhile, the nursing staff of Government Hospitals too threatened to go on strike in support of the agitating doctors. They took out a rally and wore black badges. The Central Zone DCP Md.Iqbal told to the media that they are investigating the case and if the probe reveals any such component, the department will certainly alter the section of the law. The District Collector, RV Chandravadan maintained that only seven children died from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. Earlier the Junior Doctors in Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals staged a protest meeting in support of their colleagues. The burnt the effigy before staging a brief demonstration at AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad.
