Rajahmundry - East Godavari, December 31, 2007

The talks between the management of the ONGC and contract workers failed on Saturday resulting the latter to launch relay hunger strike from Monday. As a result, work was affected at all rigs except in Narsapur. Contract Workers' Society has been demanding regularization of 626 workers and served a strike notice on management last week.

The ONGC officials, Labour Commissioner of Vijayawada, MPs, MLAs and representatives of the Joint Action Committee held talks with workers but they failed. The management agreed to absorb 60 workers as permanent employees in the first phase an later in a phased manner.
