13 killed, 9 persons seriously injured in freak road accident

A van carrying a marriage party from Nandyal in Kurnool district to Buchireddypalem rammed a stationary lorry at Marripadu in the Nellore district on Saturday. In the ghastly accident, thirteen persons, nine of them children died on the spot and nine were seriously injured.
According to the Superintendent of Police, B Malla Reddy said rash driving and poor visibility were said to be the reason for the accident. The injured were rushed to Atmakur Area Hospital before being shifted to the District Hospital. The impact of the collision was so severed that 13 persons died on the spot. While some bodies of the children were strewn all around some were trapped in the mangled vehicle.
