Vijayawada, December 21, 2007

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for Rajiv Gandhi IIIT at Nuzvid on Friday. Speaking at a public meeting, he said that the foundation would be laid at Machilipatnam Port in a month’s time. He said once, the port is ready, the coastal town would witness rapid development. He said that the six-year IIIT course would commence with 500 students from the next academic year.

He said that Rs.150 crore would be allotted for the IIIT and it would be developed with Rs.900 crore in the next five years. An admission test would be conducted for candidates who have passed Class X for admission into IIIT. He added that the works related to IIT at Medak would be started in the next year. He named the PG Centre at Nuzvid after AU Vice Chancellor MR Appa Rao and announced sanctioning of a bypass road near Nuzvid.

The Chief Minister explained about the various development programmes taken up by the Congress government including proposals for modernization of Nagarjuna Sagar Canals to provide water to tailed lands.
