Magistrate remands the duo in judicial custody till January 3

Hyderabad, December 21, 2007

The police on Friday produced the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member M Raja Reddy along with his wife Suguna before the First Class Magistrate amidst tight security. The Magistrate ordered judicial remand for the duo upto January 3, 2008 and were lodged in Cherlapalli jail in Hyderabad. The police also filed a petition for the custody of the naxalite couple for the investigation of several cases and the magistrate posted the case to December 24 for arguments.

The arrested naxalite with the permission of the court spoke to his advocate for nearly ten minutes. Later, the police escorted the couple to Cherlapalli jail in a van amidst tight security. The Karimnagar police filed six cases including three murders and three of rioting and other cases against the arrested naxal leader. It may be recalled that the State Police arrested him in Kerala and brought him on transit warrant. He was reportedly involved in several cases including six murders, five landmine blast cases including killing of former Assembly Speaker D Sripada Rao and IPS officer C Umesh Chandra.

He was also involved in the attack on Sirpur police station in Adilabad and killing of a Sub Inspector and 12 other police personnel and snatching away of weapons and involved in killing of 16 police personnels in Khammam district and some more cases are on his head.
