MIM supporters attacked a House surgeon at Government Maternity Hospital

Junior Doctors boycotts duties, On agitation path again

Hyderabad, December 14, 2007

Only 48 hours has passed after the Junior Doctors ended their protest and began to attend their duties. The patients too are just beginning to visit Government Hospitals. Meanwhile, another even has put the doctors back to the agitation path. MIM activists attacked a house surgeon at the Government Maternity Hospital, Nayapul in the city on Friday afternoon. With this, the junior doctors are on the warpath again as they are being constantly attacked by peoples representatives.

According to the Secretary of the AP Junior Doctors Association, K Rajasekhar, the junior doctors from all over the State would boycott duties and join the strike. He said that their last faith on the Government is lost and that the promised security to the medicos in the hospitals is doubtful. The trouble started after an under trial prisoner died at the hospital undergoing treatment and the agitated members of the patient and MIM activists led by Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri ransacked the hospital and attacked the doctors. During the course of attack, a woman house surgeon suffered a head injury. She was rushed to the nearby Osmania Hospital for treatment.

Provoked over the incident, the junior doctors in the twin cities boycotted duties and staged a demonstration in front of Nayapul Hospital demanding action against the culprits. The doctors took out a rally from the hospital to the High Court and staged a sit on the road. The efforts of the Medical Education Minister to pacify the agitating doctors went in vain. The police arrested the doctors and shifted them to various police stations. Later they were released. The police registered cases against the victims relatives and MIM activists for assaulting a house surgeon and ransacking the hospital. The junior doctors demanded that the Advocate General BV Mohan Reddy be arrested for failing to keep the assurance he has given to the High Court in the Niloufer issue.
